As part of the Think Big! Festival in Munich from July 5-13, 2024, the nationwide network explore dance, which has been promoting access to contemporary dance for children and young people throughout Germany since 2018, will be presenting two current dance productions (PRISMA by Rotem Weissman and ESTHER by Reut Shemesh) and a cultural-political discussion event on the potential of cultural education in the personal development of young people.

On July 8, explore dance and the Think Big! Festival invites all interested parties to a cultural policy panel at the Muffatwerk.

With MdB Erhard Grundl, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen,

Dr. Kerstin Evert, Director of K3 - Zentrum für Choreographie | Tanzplan Hamburg and co-founder of the explore dance network, and Franz Krämer, PostDoc, Chair of Education with a focus on culture and aesthetic education at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, will discuss the potential of cultural education for the personal development of young people. Sabine Leucht, freelance journalist for Süddeutsche Zeitung, taz, Theater der Zeit and others, will moderate the event.

Since its foundation in 2018, the cross-state network explore dance has enabled children and young people to participate in artistic experiences, focusing on the diversity of current contemporary dance styles and innovative formats. Over 30 productions have now been created, including 24 pop-up pieces that have already been shown in over 500 performances nationwide and internationally, flanked by many hundreds of outreach programs in schools and educational institutions.

For this, explore dance will receive the award for outstanding development in dance as part of the German Dance Award in fall 2024. The network had already been awarded the Perspective Prize of the DER FAUST theater prize in 2019.

Nevertheless, the future work and continued existence of explore dance is currently only secured for 2024 with federal funding.
