Theater Marabu (D)
Master of Desaster
A task force visits school yards, parks, and other public spaces to create order. Rubbish needs to be cleared, green spaces need to be cared for, playground equipment requires maintenance, safety challenges need to be removed. The team does all this with dedication, loves to play some brass music along the way or sing a song once the work is done. This time, everything changes, though: Just when the team is about to tidy away their equipment, they suddenly spot a mysterious object: How did it get there? Whom does it belong to and what is inside? The task force mobilises all it has at its disposal to avoid an impending catastrophe. With a lot of absurd humour and a lot of brass music, the seven performers play with and against the worries and fears of our present and demonstrate unshakeable optimism.
Theater Marabu was founded in 1993 by Tina Jücker and Claus Overkamp. It is a free, professional theatre for a young audience with its own venue in the Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik in Bonn-Beuel. It not only offers aesthetically innovative, primarily musical, and always humour-driven productions for a young audience, but also conducts theatre projects with children and young adults, and gets involved in the promotion of new young talent. Their productions have won numerous awards (amongst others, they were nominated for the George Tabori-Preis 2013 and the Deutsche Theaterpreis Der FAUST 2009 and 2013). In 2015, the Theater Marabu was awarded the ASSITEJ-Preis for extraordinary achievements in theatre for a young audience as well as the INTHEGA Preis for trend-setting theatre.
