Family dance workshop with Iman Gele and Yara Atrisha Traore (Queen Buckhype)
This workshop focuses on the dance style known as Krump (Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise), a powerful, expressive street dance style that originated in Los Angeles in the 2000s. Krump embodies emotion, empowerment, and community.
In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of this dance form, ranging from basic techniques and freestyle elements to expression and stage presence. It’s not just about movement, but also about self-confidence, courage, and personal artistic expression (“Think Big!")

Iman Gele is a krump and hip-hop dancer, theater artist, host, organizer, and feminist activist with East African roots. She is a co-founder of the feminist collectives Walashé and NDA BIVINI. In her artistic work, Iman Gele combines Afro-diasporic dance styles with political activism and uses dance as a tool for empowerment, resistance, and healing.
Yara Atrisha Traore, known as Queen Buckhype, is one of the world’s leading Krump dancers. Born in Germany with roots in Gambia, Senegal, and Portugal, she discovered Krump at age 17 through her uncle, one of the early pioneers of the Hamburg Krump scene. She became Krump World Champion in 2018 and 2023, dances on the streets and at battle floors, and has appeared in productions by Mabel Preach and Janne Gregor.
Iman Gele and Yara Atrisha Traore are dancers in the production “Ich kann’s nicht lassen” by Janne Gregor (Berlin), which will be performed on July 11, 12, and 13 at the Schauburg, Große Burg.
