BOXED
A living sculpture in the public space
In BOXED, the audience becomes part of a living sculpture in an urban setting. Through instructions delivered via headphones, the audience becomes part of a choreography in which they themselves move objects, form structures and shape the space. How do social systems emerge? What rules crystallise in the process, and what dynamics does the resulting image follow? After just 30 minutes of intense focus, all participants have experienced how the phenomenon of society comes into being.
BOXED is a prime example of the work of Wired Studio, which has been exploring for years how choreography can serve as a physical means of engaging with current social issues.
Wired Studio, based in Copenhagen and under the artistic direction of Simone Wierød, specializes in the creation of dance performances, choreographic installations, and dance films, and is known for its visually striking works.
Concept and choreography: Simone Wierød | Dramaturgy: Betina Rex | Music: M€RCY | Set design consultancy: Stumper og Stykker | Video: Tim Panduro
The concept for BOXED was developed as part of the exhibition DataKoreografi, organized by doctoral candidate and curator Anne Julie Arnfred in collaboration with CATCH (Center of Art and Technology). The further development of BOXED was supported by a residency at Holstebro Dansekompagni, as well as by the Elsinore Theatre and the Danish Art Foundation.
