ALS ICH IN DEINEM ALTER WAR
“When you think back to when you were my age, what image comes to mind first?
What made you especially happy when you were my age?
What worried you the most as a child?”
When their own grandparents were young, the world was a very different place. Sometimes they even grew up in a different country.
In preparation for this production, children became detectives—in workshops lasting several days in Dresden, Essen, and Munich, among other places, they interviewed their grandparents, developed short scenes based on their stories, and crafted models of their various families.
Drawing on all these stories, the German-Taiwanese dance theater company Polymer DMT created a dance theater piece about connections, gaps in memory, and generational disconnects. Two dancers, handmade props, and plenty of music come together to form multicolored images that playfully trace the contrast between the present and the past.
A captivating piece that blends dance and theater, for children and their grandparents—and all other theater fans!
Fang Yun Lo, born in Taiwan in 1982, studied dance in Taipei and dance and choreography at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Since 2011, under the label Polymer DMT, she has been creating dance pieces, video works and interactive media installations in collaboration with artists from a wide range of disciplines.
