Willy Kazzama takes the audience on a journey through his life, which leads him along paths that blend urban hip-hop with African dance traditions, featuring rhythms and gestures that are, in some cases, ancient. How do our roots shape our bodies and our movements? How does the body store the memories of displaced ancestors? Through dance, Willy Kazzama combines his cultural heritage with the influences arising from migration and cultural globalisation.
The dancer, choreographer, author and theatre director Anne Nguyen has been dedicated to hip-hop since 2005: “I am interested in the geometric transposition of hip-hop movements, which generally consist of frontal, circular movements performed within a defined space, namely the stage. I explore the relationship between the performer and the audience, the relationship with the partner, and the sense of ‘togetherness’ on stage.”
