Constantin Trommlitz (D)
TIE BREAK
In an urban dance battle, dancers compete against one another. These battles originally arose from gang rivalries, which were settled through dance rather than violence. In 2024, they became an Olympic competitive discipline for the first time. The music, floor, space and opponents are not predetermined. The challenge lies in reacting spontaneously and giving it your all. But far more than victory, it is about self-image, potential, self-doubt, originality and dealing with pressure and defeat. How do you turn nervousness into energy? Constantin Trommlitz explores how dance battles serve as a metaphor for personal struggles against fears, self-imposed expectations and the struggle for acceptance. When does the challenge become a moment of liberation?
The choreographer, dancer and filmmaker Constantin Trommlitz lives and works in Amsterdam and Hamburg. His dance background lies in breakdancing. In 2022, he began creating his own pieces, in which he transforms limitations into strengths.
